My Philosophy

I believe that pregnancy and the birth of a child is one of the most important and transformative experiences in one’s life.  Regardless of the type of birth you choose or the setting in which the birth takes place, your unique needs and desires should be acknowledged and respected.   I believe that you deserve to have the most accurate information regarding pregnancy and childbirth so that you may use this knowledge to make the wisest choices for yourself and your baby.   As a doula, I encourage women to trust their bodies, their own instincts, and the birth process.  I believe a woman has a right to give birth in a calm and nurturing environment so that she can work with her labor confidently.  If a birth partner is present, I am always aware of the emotional connection he or she has with the mother and I honor that.  My presence in no way diminishes the significance and essential role of the birth partner.  Instead, I support the partner so that he or she can participate at their own comfort level.   I believe that parents who have a positive experience during the birth of their child have an easier time adjusting during their transition into parenthood.   As your doula, I am committed to providing individualized support that is right for you.

About Me

I have been married for 12 years and I have two daughters (ages 7 and 10).  I have lived in the Austin area off and on since 1985.  I have a professional background as a school psychologist.  The presence of a doula at the birth of both of my children started me on my path to becoming a birth doula.  I found it incredibly comforting to have the doula’s guidance and support throughout my pregnancy, labor and birth, and into the postpartum period.  I wanted every woman to have this experience during her labor and birth.
I trained and received my certification with DONA International.  I love what I do and I feel honored when I witness the birth of each child.   I’ve attended births in a variety of settings (hospitals, birthing centers, private homes) and with a variety of care providers (obstetricians and midwives).  I am also a Certified Breastfeeding Educator after completing coursework with the Texas Department of Health.  I am a member of the Central Texas Birth Network and the Central Texas Doula Association.
